Love.
He had fallen head over heels for delirium on two legs. It was the most pure and sacred thing he’d ever run across in the course of several lifetimes. After a couple hundred years “in the church”, purity and sanctity are not terms even a creature of the night bandies about loosely. What would you do to protect it? What would you endure? When the outer demons are in league with your inner ones, what would you inflict? When she breaks her far away stare to look directly into your eyes and tell you “I love you”, without uttering a word, how far would you go?
Time is of the essence, especially when you live forever. With a newly born apprentice in tow, equal parts peer and pupil, a path is forged and the reckoning begins. Shades of grey blend to remind you that nothing is as it seems, nothing is as you were told. Good is not always good. Evil is not always evil. Time is running out and the sins of the father are coming home to roost.
Rebellion. Regret. Repentance. Redemption.
